Verse 1 Are they breaking before term-break? Check Are they punching instead of punctuating? Check Is a red felt tip pen exactly how you felt? Then the marking tips you right into the red Chorus Are you working with children yet? Are you working with children? Check Are you working with Working With Children Check? Verse 2 Is Ziad back on Pornhub? Check That word you heard twele times today? SPED And ain’t it something, ain’t it special, Ed? Ed’s dead baby, Ed is dead Chorus Solo Chorus Verse 3 Are you drinking Monday through Sunday? Check Did you try differentiating only to start self-medicating? Is the Noiseworks theirs and the Officeworks all mine? Take me back to Uni, it’s been a long time

Verse 1 On this day a boy was born The second day, the seventh month Oblivion to eternity not exactly The flashing of a card White noise in a bar From him to her, to maternity, in Ferzackley The infant in the barn, the following or stars Chorus Nobody bears the fruit Not without bruising it You cannot learn nothing Not without lo-ooh-ooh-osing everything No one bets to lose I put my money on the bob-tail nag, Bobbo bet on the bay. Verse 2 Merseyside, Clear Paddock Creek, right Liverpool, wrong hemisphere They swore you in, I only heard, like, every second word We planned as you ran, you ran as we planned More than a boy of 12, o captain my captain of Heckenberg We had what we scammed, we scammed what we had Chorus Verse 3 A wading pool spills its guts all down the drive, of a pink house that still draws in the boys like flies I knew you wouldn't settle by the side of the road, where the girls dumped the beds and the memory foams From Bicentenary to buying base, you had your dreams and now their ache Phony Beatlemania, real Bonnyrigg, you made her cum and she made you itch for it We put her on a pedestal, you got her on pills She's flying off the shelves in Fish on King Tell me which one of us, which one of us ever made it stick? Tell me which cunt of us ever made any of it stick? Chorus

Verse 1 They sleep, they rise Bowed and bent The mundane tide, laboured and spent At dusk the cry, the crack, the vent, “Bring me my wine, my wife, my wench!” Chorus Bacchus, back on top, if not in triumph x2 Verse 2 Thresh the grain, strain the grape Sweat down to tears, forehead to nape At dusk, the cry, the vent, the crack, “If I bring you wine, I can take it back!” Chorus Change My god is a leg man, he ain’t no Titian Velasquez, that’s what she said Grab ‘em by the Poussin RPTx3 Chorus

about

In 2017, staring down a month of crowdfunding for their album Monsters’ Rights, Wifey decided they needed a new idea. 'Other People's Money' is the final fruition of that idea, an EP of bespoke songs written in exchange for the band's most generous Pozible pledges. A different take on taking requests.

Heeding this unique call, one friend pledged to the campaign with a request for a song about the Working With Children Check. The band stepped to the plate with a thumping testament to the despairs of being responsible for putting a backbone into other people’s sprog.

Another fan shamelessly asked for a biography. Drawing inspiration from his migration from Liverpool (England) to Liverpool (Westie-land), the band say it was a joy to rhyme with place names like Ferzackerly (not exactly) and Heckenberg (I only heard every second word).

A third supporter asked for a song about Velasquez’s painting Triumph of Bacchus... naturally, not Poussin or Titian’s version! Don’t be daft!

Initially intending to produce the songs as rough and ready rehearsal room jams, each of the songs soon took on a life of its own, demanding to be finessed and heard.

And thus we get this unique and beautifully textured EP, Other People’s Money, a set of songs-to-order and B-side rarities featuring the band's usual bass, drums, guitar and violin combo, augmented by fresh choral arrangements, piano, nylon string guitar, Mellotron, triangle, exotic percussion and tongue drums. Recorded by their long-time producer and most patient man in the world, Daniel Arena, in whatever room the band could make noise for free (including laundries and workplace lunchrooms).

Wifey are now:
Stephen Claxton: Guitar, Keys, Vocals, Bass, Percussion
Nikkita Dixon: Bass, Vocals, Keys
Kathryn Brownhill: Violin, Keys
Mark “Looch” Lewis: Drums
